Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Chairman Calls For Calm Over Fuel Spill

The Executive Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun (HOA) has asked residents of Igbogbo especially those residing at Agbalumo, Oreyo axis of the community to remain calm over the fuel spill caused by infiltration of a petrol tank located within the area due to heavy downpour experienced since last night.

According to the office of the Chairman, the infiltration of the tank caused it to overflow and spill on the ground.

Aroyewun who quickly responded to the emergency call earlier in the morning, in a statement after assessment said that the council has mobilized necessary agencies to the site to control the situation.

“The leadership of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA wishes to inform the general public about an incident that occurred earlier today, Monday, August 4, 2025, in the Agbalumo axis of Oreyo, following a period of heavy rainfall.

“Due to the downpour, water infiltrated a petrol tank located within the community, resulting in an overflow. This incident caused fuel to spread across the surface of the ground, creating a serious safety risk for residents, businesses, and passersby in the vicinity.

“Upon receiving the emergency alert, the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Hon. Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, responded swiftly and decisively by visiting the site for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. He immediately directed the mobilisation of all relevant emergency units to the site of the incident. These include the Igbogbo/Baiyeku Task Force, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other appropriate disaster management teams.”

While assuring that the emergency teams are on the ground to curtail the situation, the Chairman warned residents to stare clear of the affected area until normalcy is restored and necessary clearance issued.

“These agencies are already on the ground and actively working to assess the extent of the situation, implement safety measures, and prevent any escalation of the hazard. Their presence has been instrumental in cordoning off the affected area and initiating containment protocols to protect lives and property.

“Residents are strongly advised to remain calm and avoid the affected zone until clearance is given by the emergency authorities. The safety of our people remains the top priority of this administration, and every necessary action is being taken to restore normalcy as quickly and efficiently as possible.

“We thank the community for their cooperation and urge everyone to continue monitoring official information channels for verified updates and instructions.”
